Mark A. Clausen

Mark A. Clausen has provided strategic and forceful representation of clients since the mid-1980s. His practice focuses on issues in real estate and construction, but also includes corporate, employment, and personal injury matters. More recently, Mr. Clausen has obtained a number of clients from the Internet, particularly among businesses doing business outside the state with legal matters in Washington.

Mr. Clausen has repeatedly been named a "Super Lawyer" by Washington Law & Politics magazine. After working for many years with other firms, Mr. Clausen started his own practice in 1993. His clients range from private individuals to major companies that are household names, and he has handled major matters in Washington, Alaska, California, Texas and Michigan.

Currently, Mr. Clausen serves on the executive board of the Construction Law Section of the Washington State Bar Association. His expertise, however, is not limited to construction and real estate issues. Through Mr. Clausen's work in trade practices and consumer protection he was appointed Chairman of the Washington State Bar Association Consumer Protection Committee. While serving as chair he wrote an amicus brief on behalf of the Bar in an appeal before the Washington State Supreme Court. He is a frequent seminar speaker and lecturer, having spoken at seminars for the University of Washington Engineering School, the Washington State Bar Association, Washington State Trial Lawyers' Association, Associated General Contractors, Associated Builders and Contractors, and other trade associations. A native of Michigan, Mr. Clausen received his bachelor's degree in journalism from Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan. He served as an award-winning investigative reporter in Indiana after college. Mr. Clausen attended law school at the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, and received his law degree in 1984. In law school he was a moot court champion and a fellow in the John Marshall Society. After a judicial clerkship with the Washington Court of Appeals and Washington Supreme Court, 1984-85, he began in private practice. Mr. Clausen is admitted to practice in Washington State, the federal district courts of Washington, the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, and the Federal Court of Claims.

Mr. Clausen lives near Seattle with his wife and three children. He has served as a board member for the Northwest Chamber Chorus and on the council of University Lutheran Church. He is a member of the Associated Builders & Contractors, various bar associations, the Washington State Trial Lawyers Association, and the Brain Injury Association of Washington, He has climbed mountains in Washington, Oregon, Canada and Peru, and reached the summit of Mt. Rainier five times. He is an avid cyclist and backcountry skier.
