Mark A. Clausen

Mark A. Clausen has
provided strategic and forceful representation of clients since the
mid-1980s. A significant portion of his work has been on behalf
of plaintiffs in personal injury matters and on behalf of
consumers. Mr. Clausen has repeatedly been named a “Super Lawyer”
by Washington Law & Politics magazine. He has maintained his
own practice since 1993, and represented personal injury clients since
the 1980s. He has handled major matters in Washington, Alaska,
California, Texas and Michigan.
As a result of Mr. Clausen’s work in trade practices and consumer
protection he was appointed Chairman of the Washington State Bar
Association Consumer Protection Committee. While serving as chair
he wrote an amicus brief on behalf of the Washington State Bar
Association in a major appeal of a personal injury and consumer
protection case before the Washington State Supreme Court. The
Court’s decision was a major victory for injured parties. He is a
frequent seminar speaker and lecturer, having spoken at seminars for
the University of Washington Engineering School, the Washington State
Bar Association, Washington State Trial Lawyers’ Association, and
numerous other organizations.
A native of Michigan, Mr. Clausen received his bachelor's degree in
journalism from Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan. He served as
an award-winning investigative reporter in Indiana between college and
law school. Mr. Clausen attended law school at the College of William
& Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, and received his law degree in
1984. In law school he was a moot court champion and a fellow in
the John Marshall Society. After a judicial clerkship with the
Washington Court of Appeals and Washington Supreme Court, 1984-85, he
began in private practice. Mr. Clausen is admitted to
practice in Washington State, the federal district courts of
Washington, the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, and the Federal Court of
Claims.
Mr. Clausen lives near Seattle with
his wife and three children. He is a foster parent. He has
served as a board member for the Northwest Chamber Chorus and on the
council of the University Lutheran Church. He is a member of the
Associated Builders & Contractors, various bar associations, the
Brain Injury Association of Washington and the Washington Farm
Bureau, He has climbed mountains in Washington, Oregon, Canada
and Peru, and reached the summit of Mt. Rainier five times. He is
an avid cyclist, and has done the Seattle-Portland Bicycle Classic.
